Legal support for child support issues under the Federal Child Support Guidelines and Ontario family law.
Child support involves both a calculation and a disclosure process. The list below reflects the kinds of issues commonly addressed.
In Ontario, child support is generally calculated under the Federal Child Support Guidelines, based on the paying parent’s income and the number of children. Special or extraordinary expenses — sometimes referred to as Section 7 expenses — can be shared in proportion to income. Self-employed and corporate income issues often require additional disclosure and review.
Accurate income disclosure — including tax returns, notices of assessment, paystubs, and business records — is required for a proper child support calculation. Our extended client support structure assists with organizing this information for counsel’s review.
